Item Details
This is a divine antique French box dating from the 1800's. It would have been given as a gift filled with bon bons or chocolates from a high-class shop. The box is made from card and paper with a glazed top. The lid bears a vignette of an 18th Century scene. A well-dressed family can be seen relaxing on the bank of a river, whilst others are boating in the background. Meanwhile, two elegant ladies engage in conversation in the shade of a tree. It is utterly charming.
The scene is depicted in atmospheric sepia shades and hand tinted in blue yellow and pink, trimmed with a fine passementerie. The lid of the box opens to reveal a fine fabric lined interior.
