Item Details
Here we have a delightful solid silver brooch imported by John George Smith, a prolific source of many fine pieces, big and small, bought into England to sate the thirst of London's wealthy. This brooch is of 'The Butterfly Catcher' and is said to have been imported by JGS on one of his many trips to near Europe to perhaps Germany or the Netherlands. On its return to London it was eventually presented and assayed at the London Assay Office.
Alas research is rarely linear in the last quarter of the 19th Century, consequently we do hope one of our customers will be enthusiastic and have enough time to commit to finishing this story. If you are that person, we hope you mightily enjoy it, and if so, share your findings with us.
