Antique Silver Engine Turned Rectangular Jewellery Box

Ref: P23 - 287
Sold
This is a truly heavy rectangular silver jewellery and trinket box. It was created in 1914/1915, and was assayed in Birmingham. The lid features a polished silver surface with a simple linear design, evocative of an earlier Georgian period. It is eminently suitable for storing the various small items of jewellery connected with either a lady or gentleman. The interior is enhanced by the original padded base and an elaborate side curtaining , all executed in a deep olive green. The piece exhibits craftsmanship typical of the early 20th century. Despite having given more than 100 years of service, the box remains robust and very likely to provide equal service over the next century. However, this level of service has also left signs of it being held in high regard by a previous owner(s), including; a 3 Character engraved monogram [EEH] to the front face, possible replacement bun feet and the mid-century renewal of the underside. In addition and perhaps most importantly, it is also this loving care regime that means while overall the silver is in good condition, simultaneously the original hallmarking is barely visible to the lower part of the box but you can see 2 hallmarks on the lid.
