Item Details
Here we have a lovely piece of jewellery that was coming to it's peak at the turn of the 19th century and that had many origins and names.
I was bought up in a rural county where my Grandmother always contended that a posy brooch was at least three thing! Firstly it should be small, second it could be made of many different materials (depending on those available to the individual and/or family). Finally, it should be respectful of the broad community, and mindful of the circumstances that may befall both individuals and families.
This 'Posy brooch' appears to heed my gran's simple guide lines quite nicely and is witness to the values and work of an underated silversmith - none other than Richard John Wakefield of Chester
