Item Details
This antique case dates from 1871 and comes from the skilled folk at the Henry Matthews workshop.
In approximate terms it was most likely designed to accommodate Laguito No. 3 cigars or similar. It may also be suitable for some; cigarillos, cheroots and other European small cigars like 'Hamlet' or Henri Winterman.
The leather of the outer sleeve is in good condition, as is the inner sleeve. Due to use, the outer sleeve looks more uneven than the inner sleeve, taking on a mottled dark blue, come black hue - whilst the inner sleeve is more even and closer to black.
This is a truly excellent example of a late Victorian leather and sterling silver mounted cigar case. In very good , useable condition with light wear commensurate with age and use. Beautifully presented with a lovely deep colour.
Hallmarks date this lovely piece to London 1871.
