Item Details
This is a truly lovely item that has been thoroughly loved throughout most of its life, indeed it has been polished so lovingly that there are a couple of high points where there are a tiny slit and a pinhole.
Designed to have a tight fitting hinged lid, we can also report that that 1 out of 2 still apply...it does have a lovely tight fitting lid!
Oh and yes...it also has a virtually undecipherable script monogram to the cartouche on the lid.
So all in all, the purist will see this as a 'car crash' - a broken hinge, someone else's monogram and evidence of over-zealous polishing to boot!
What we are asking is whether that means it isn't a very decorative and useful item that now, since we have lined top and bottom; could make a cracking receptacle for cuff-links, earrings, rings and other chunkier jewellery too?
The bottom line is, it probably isn't economic nor feasible to repair this without potentially destroying its overall look and charm.
The question is can you give it a good home?

If you are a purist the condition is not so good, the hinge is broken, there are a couple of high points that have been polished through and it has a complex script monogram that is not easily deciphered.
On the other hand if you are after an; old, elegant hand dyed velvet lined silver box that could hold earrings, rings, brooches, cuff-links and many other items of jewellery, then you might regard condition as good.
