Item Details
This trinket or ring box, is an unusually deep version from the consummate professionals in the manufacture of small silver boxes, A&J Zimmerman. Dating to the eve of the First World War it is no surprise all the Hallmarks on the body are rubbed and only discernible with a good light source. That said the lion passant and Birmingham date letter ‘O’ are clearly visible on the rim of the lid.
Inside, the lid wears a gilt wash and the base is now clothed in a sumptuous red silk to the sides, accompanied by a matching lightly padded base cushion. The lid of the box is set off by a narrow channel border with an inset chevron and dot pattern. The ensemble is completed by a new exterior base plate finished in a red faux reptile print suede.

The silver is in good condition and the lid tight-fitting. Overall the condition of the box is good, which despite the rubbed marks has little other than the light surface scratching and a few dinks that bear witness to its age and sustained use.
