Item Details
Here we have a delightful oval trinket box that is probably the best antique trinket box we have seen for some time, not just because it is made by the inimitable Henry Matthews, but also because it is a strong nominee for the most original piece we have ever had the honour to find, attributes we are sure will appeal to many of our customers.
In summary, this piece has; clear Birmingham Assay hallmarks to top and bottom, a strong hinge, straight legs, a vacant cartouche, a delightful 'engine turned' lid, that fits beautifully and opens and closes with ease. However the interior is also a 'tour de force' with a gilt lid and what we believe to be the original 'eau de Nil' rouched silk perimeter cushion, complementing the same fabric forming a cushion to the base.
All that said, this lovely piece has been used and consequently it has; just a little of the 'lightest surface scratching', but nothing significant.
